Health Tip:
Pollen season has certainly arrived! If you are plagued by pollen, nutrition assessment CAN help! The pollen itself is not the problem. Seasonal allergies are a sign that your immune system is not functioning correctly. Nutrition assessment can help restore balance to your immune system and reduce your symptoms. It may take a little time but we repeatedly have patients allergies get better with regular care.

Infertility
Dr. Llana Call Smith, DC
April 20-26, 2025 is National Infertility Awareness week. This particular issue is near and dear to my heart. It has hit closer to home than I ever imagined it would. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 10 years as of this writing. It pains me to write that. I know firsthand the strain that puts on a woman and a marriage. When a couple decides that they are ready to grow their family it can be disheartening when it doesn’t happen as fast as they expected. It can cause depression, shame, guilt, anger, and feelings of being a victim.
I am writing this particular article not only to bring awareness to those fighting infertility, but to also look at it a different way and bring hope.
Too often, in the medical community, ‘infertility treatments’ are used to force the body into pregnancy. This can leave an already depleted body more depleted. At the end of the treatments, the desired effect of a baby may or may not have been realized at all. These treatments are also very expensive. In addition to the physical and financial depletion, there are mental and spiritual costs that are often not talked about but certainly occur.
Fertility treatments per month: 12-25K (Treatment Average 6 months = 72-150K)
Adoption cost per child average: Domestic 40-50K, International 20-40K
My husband and I chose to go a different route than the medical option. We know that conception and pregnancy require HEALTH. We want to restore balance to our bodies and allow my body to be ready to accept pregnancy. We do not force the body to do anything; we allow what God made to function as close to 100% as possible. We want to support body, mind and spirit in this process.
While we have certainly prayed to God to bless us with a child, we also feel that God expects us to be co-creators with Him. It is our responsibility to treat our bodies well if we are to expect them to work as He designed. We have used:
· regular restorative chiropractic care
· specific nutritional care tailored for our particular bodies
· hormone analysis to see where we stand and how to improve further
· we eat healthy and avoid the foods our bodies do not function well on
· we move regularly
· we allow our bodies to rest with proper sleep, down time, and massage
· we have a community that knows what we are going through
I have chosen to be very open with where we are in our journey. I know that marriages are often strained while fighting infertility, so having a community that will help us add stability it VITAL. We have friends, church family, co-workers and family members that can give us support and encouragement and just a listening ear when we need it. This aspect is so important that I have started a small group for women trying to conceive. We get to support each other in our journey and have a safe place to just be ourselves.
I can confidently say that while my husband and I don’t have a child (YET!), God will provide and we are healthier today than when we started this journey. Without the commitment to this journey, I would not have learned what I have learned and had the healing that I have had and will continue to have. I get the joy of helping other couples on their journey to restore health and prepare for growing their families.
If someone you know is in the middle of this journey, please be as best a support you can be. Ask them how they need to be supported.
If you are in the middle of this journey, please know you are not alone! God sees you and hears you when you cry out to Him! Know that the medical route is not the only route. In your quest to grow your family, do not neglect your physical, mental and spiritual health. I want you to make sure you take care of yourself fully so that you can take care of your family without sacrificing yourself. If you are local and interested in our small group, please email (DrLlanaCall@gmail.com) and ask about our “Tea Time Chats.” If you are interested in how I may be able to help you on your journey, please do not hesitate to email and ask.
